Brief introduction to the speaker:
Professor F. Stuart Chapin, III is an emeritus professor of ecology in the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He is world-renowned for his pioneering work in the field of plant nutritional adaptations, climate change and sustainability. Professor Chapin was elected as a member of National Academy of Sciences in 2004, and the president of Ecological Society of America in 2011. He authored more than 10 books, including the classic textbook on ecosystem ecology: Principle of Terrestrial Ecosystem Ecology, and published about 500 peer papers, including nearly 30 papers in Science, Nature, PNAS and his H-index was 99. Professor Chapin serves on the editorial boards of several high profile journals such as PNAS. He is also a member of several climate policy advisory groups, including IPCC, US National Climate Assessment Advisory Committee and IPCC review 2012.
