Seminar on 2014-4-24Extratropical Cooling, Interhemispheric Thermal Gradients, and Tropical Climate Change

Subject:  Extratropical Cooling, Interhemispheric Thermal Gradients, and Tropical Climate Change

Speaker:  Prof. John Chiang (University of California, Berkeley)

John C.H. Chiang obtained a master's degree in Kanglaier University (Cornell University) In 1996 with a major in physics; in 2001, he received a doctor's degree in Columbia University with a major in earth and environmental science. During 2001-2002 he conducted his postdoctoral research at the University of Washington and since 2003 he has engaged in teaching and research work in the Department of geography at the University of California at Berkeley and the Berkeley Center for atmospheric science. Furthermore, he is the chief editor of the current international atmospheric science journals -Journal of Climate. His main research field centers in climate dynamics of global atmospheric and its interaction with terrestrial and marine. Over the past 10 years, he focused mainly on the tropical atmosphere ocean and land system and their interaction with the global climate, particularly the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) response to climate forcing and feedback processes and mechanisms.
