As the invitation of Prof. Zhisheng An, Prof. Peter Molnar from Cororado University visited Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IEECAS) on March 24, 2016. Prof. Peter Molnar discussed the further cooperation with Prof. Zhisheng An, Prof. Weijian Zhou and colleagues of IEECAS about Sino-American Major Cooperation Project, and prospected ongoing Sino-US collaborative research. After the discussion, Prof. Peter Molnar visited AMS Center of our institute.
Peter Molnar is a professor of Geological Sciences, University of Colorado at Boulder Fellow, Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences. His current research focuses largely on aspects of how mountain ranges form and continental lithosphere deforms. He has been awarded the 2014 Crafoord Prize in Geosciences for a groundbreaking contribution to the understanding of the driving forces behind plate motions and the place of continents in earth's evolution. The prize is awarded annually by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to honor achievements not always covered by its more famous Nobel Prizes.
