Ice core of black carbon research paper was published in the PNAS (Proceeding of National Academy of Sciences USA). It was finished by Dr. Cao Junji (our institute) and Prof. Xu Baiqing from Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research Chinese Academy of Sciences.
They find evidence that black soot aerosols deposited on Tibetan alaciers have been a significant contributing factor to observed rapid glacier retreat. Reduced black soot emissions, in addition to reduced greenhouse gases, may be required to avoid demise of Hinalayan glaciers and retain the benifits of glaciers for seasonal fresh water supplies.
